Dr. Dolittle Day

Dr. Doolittle is the name of a much-loved character from children’s literature. The doctor does not treat human patients, rather animals because he can “speak their languages.” The Dr. Doolittle stories were first published in 1920 and have gone on to be represented in musical, animated and feature film.

Dr. Doolittle is the creation of Hugh Lofting. Lofting was born in 1886 to Irish and British parents. He was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving a degree in civil engineering. (more…)
